World No. 1 Novak Djokovic defeated American John Isner in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of Shanghai Masters.

Djokovic, the defending champion, moves to a 9-2 head to head advantage over the American. Isner, who defeated Lucas Pouille of France 7-5, 6-3 to make the round of 16, last defeated Djokovic back in the summer of 2013.

Isner's nine aces against Djokovic took him to 1,007 for the year, reaching the milestone for the sixth season overall.

The match took only one hour and 14 minutes, and it was clear that Djokovic recovered well after his recent injuries.

Djokovic is on a 24-0 sets winning streak in Asia dating back to last year's Shanghai Masters. He won his inaugural appearance at the Japan Open last week without losing a set.

The two players held serve to 5-all (with neither player facing break point on the way) before Djokovic broke to go one ahead, storming to the 7-5 victory.

In the second set, Djokovic took control by breaking serve out of the gate, storming to a 3-0 lead and going on to serve it out in just over half an hour.
