The 2019 World Winter Sports (Beijing) Expo opened at China National Convention Center on Thursday. Cai Qi, secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and Xu Qin, deputy secretary of the CPC Hebei Provincial Committee and Hebei provincial governor, visited and inspected the exhibition.

Hosting the Winter Expo is part of Beijing's responsibilities leading up to the 2022 Winter Olympics, and it helps to promote the Olympic spirit and the upcoming Games. The fair has been an annual event in the Chinese capital since 2016.

This year's four-day expo is staged in four parts: exhibitions, theme forums, industry exchanges, and supporting activities. More than 20 parallel forums and events are set up, and over 600 domestic and foreign brands participate. An estimated 24,000 professional visitors will attend the conference, and the number of visitors is expected to exceed 160,000.

Cai and Xu walked through the exhibitions of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympic Games Organizing Committee, the Chinese Olympic Committee, the Shougang Group, Zhangjiakou and Yanqing.

In front of the exhibition area of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee stood the cartoon images of the mascots, "Bing Dwen Dwen" and "Shuey Rhon Rhon."

Students from 24 primary and secondary schools in the city were painting pictures about the sports event. Cai enjoyed the paintings and gave his thumb-ups to the students.

In the Shougang, Zhangjiakou, and Yanqing exhibition areas, Cai was brief on the progress of the preparations for the Winter Olympics. He said the competition areas should strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and jointly put on an outstanding Olympic event.

Cai also visited the national exhibition areas including Finland, Norway, France and Canada, all of which are traditionally strong in snow and ice sports. He learned about the international leading ice and snow equipment manufacturing technology as well as their experience in organizing ice and snow events. Cai also took a test ride of the unmanned electric vehicles.

Representatives of foreign countries present during Cai's visit said they were eager to participate in the Beijing Winter Olympics and the Winter Paralympics. Cai thanked them and said he looked forward to their participation in jointly promoting winter sports in Beijing.
