World Wushu Championships to kick off in Shanghai

World's highest level Wushu competition, the World Wushu Championships, is to kick off on Sunday.

The four-day event attracts over 1000 athletes from around 100 countries and regions. The biennial event began in 1991 and always captures the excitement and range of Wushu both in the explosive full-contact combat Sanda bouts and the dynamic movements and distinct weaponry of Taolu forms competition.

During the 36th IWUF Executive Board Meeting and 15th IWUF Congress held on Saturday, Gou Zhongwen, director of China's General Administration of Sport and president of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC), was voted the new president of IWUF after the previous president Yu Zaiqing left his post.

Established on October 3rd, 1990, the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) is the international governing body with 152 national and territorial members across 5 continents.
