Manchester United eked out a win in their match against Serbian side Partizan in the third matchday of the group stage of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday in Belgrade.
For the most of the first half, neither of the teams managed to create a serious goal opportunity, despite several attempts through long passes.
Umar Sadiq was the most concrete for Partizan in the 41th minute when he sent a fierce shot from some 25 meters which missed the frame and ended in corner.
Just a minute later, Partizan's Takuma Asano sent another shot, but also failed to score.
The guest team got ahead thanks to a penalty conceded by Nemanja Miletic for a foul on Brandon Williams. Manchester United's Anthony Martial easily scored from the penalty spot in the 46th minute, sending goalkeeper Vladimir Popovic on the wrong side of the goal.
The beginning of the second half was marked by increased pressure of Partizan, and the successful efforts of Manchester to defend their lead.
The guest team managed to slow down the pace of the game and earn their second victory in the competition.
Manchester is at the top of the Group L with 7 points, followed by AZ Alkmaar (5 points), Partizan (4 points) and Astana (0 points).
Manchester United will host Partizan for the fourth matchday of the group stage next week.
