The weekend's Premier League games showed the virtue of patience as league leaders Liverpool came back from a goal down away to Aston Villa with two goals in the closing minutes, while Manchester City also left it late at home to Southampton.

The last time Liverpool visited Villa Park in the league they had won 6-0, but with 87 minutes on the clock on Saturday, it looked as if Jurgen Klopp's men were going to suffer their first defeat of the season thanks to Trezeguet's far post finish in the 21st minute.

However, Andy Robertson nodded Liverpool level with just three minutes to go and Sadio Mane's flick following a corner in the fourth minute of injury time completed a turnout what was partly the fruit of Liverpool's faith and ambition.

Manchester City needed an 86th-minute winner from defender Kyle Walker to complete their comeback at home to Southampton who was a vastly improved side to the one which suffered a 9-0 defeat at home to Leicester City a week ago.

James Ward Prouse's close-range finish gave Southampton an unexpected lead after 13 minutes and it wasn't until 20 minutes from time that Sergio Aguero turned home the equalizer.

Gerard Deulofeu's 80th-minute penalty gave winless Watford their sixth goal of the campaign, but by then his side trailed 2-0 at home to Chelsea thanks to Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic's goals in the 5th and 55th minutes of the game.

Leicester City's impressive season continued with a 2-0 win away to Crystal Palace thanks to second-half goals from Caglar Soyuncu and Jamie Vardy, who netted his tenth league goal of the campaign three minutes from time.

The pressure continues to mount on Arsenal coach Unai Emery after his side were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves.

Mesut Ozil returned to the Arsenal starting XI and they took the lead thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's side-footed finish in the 21st-minute, but Wolves punished another irregular performance from Emery's men when Raul Jimenez headed a 76th-minute equalizer.

Rumors of recovery at Manchester United appear to be exaggerated as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side slipped to a 1-0 defeat away to Bournemouth after Joshua King took advantage of some weak defending to control and score from close range.

Two first-half goals from John Lundstram and one from John Fleck continued Sheffield United's return to the top-flight as they beat Burnley 3-0 to move into sixth in the table, while Brighton moved up to eighth after they beat second from bottom Norwich City 2-0 with second-half goals from Leandro Trossard and Shane Duffy.

Cenk Tosun scored a 97th-minute header to cancel out Dele Alli's 63rd-minute opener for Tottenham and possibly save Marco Silva's job as Everton coach.

However, the game was overshadowed by a horrible ankle injury suffered by Everton's Andre Gomes after a foul from Heung-Min Son, which saw the South Korean sent off with 11 minutes left to play.

Finally Newcastle United claimed their second win in London this season as goals from Ciaran Clark, Fede Fernandez, and Jonjo Shelvey put them on the way to a 3-2 triumph away to West Ham United.
