Chinese sprinter Su appointed to World Athletics Athletes' Commission

Chinese sprinter Su Bingtian has been appointed to the Athletes Commission of World Athletics, formerly known as the International Association of Athletics Federations.

30-year-old Su, who holds the Asian 100m record of 9.91s, joins world 3,000m steeplechase champion Milcah Chemos Cheywa of Kenya, Syrian high jumper Majd Eddin Ghazal, Olympic triple jump gold medalist Olga Rypakova of Kazakhstan, South African sprinter Akani Simbine and 2019 world 100m silver medalist Marie Josee Ta Lou of Cote d'Ivoire, all of whom were appointed by the World Athletics Council.

During the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, six athletes were elected to the Commission following a vote by accredited athletes. The six are French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie, New Zealand's shot putter Valerie Adams, distance runner Bernard Lagat of the United States, Belgian sprinter Kevin Borlee, pole vaulter Katerina Stefanidi from Greece and middle distance runner Aisha Praught-Leer of Jamaica.
