Two skiing events were held at Shijinglong Ski Resort in northwestern Beijing's Yanqing district on December 29.

Members of Haituo Farmer Ski team and Yanqing farmers battled it out in the alpine "farmer skiing" contest.

Meanwhile, Yanqing residents competed in the urban competition. Close to 100 professionals took part in the contests organized by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympics, Beijing Sports Bureau, Beijing Sports Foundation, and Yanqing Sports Bureau.

Zhang Mingshuo skied to victory in the farmer contest. Most athletes in the farmer skiing contest were trainees from Yanqing's 2018-2019 skiing course.

Yanqing's Haituo Mountain will be a major alpine and bobsled competition zone for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Yanqing is actively building enthusiasm ahead of the Winter Games. To promote ice and snow sports, the district constructed and upgraded many outdoor skating and skiing facilities, including an ice training base and the Shijinglong Ski Resort.

In 2017, Haituo Ski team was set up, with its members having around 10 years of skiing experience on average. The team has 31 members. Ever since its establishment, they have trained over 5,000 individuals.

In recent years, winter sports have entered middle and primary schools in Yanqing. More than 20,000 students will grasp winter sports skills by 2022.

Yanqing plans to train 100,000 people altogether in terms of winter sports skills to echo the national ambition to let 300 million people become winter sports fans after China won the 2022 Winter Olympics bid.
