Humphries/Gibbs lead halfway through bobsled Worlds

Kaillie Humphries and Lauren Gibbs from the United States lead the field halfway through proceedings in the 2-woman bobsleigh at the IBSF World Championships on Feb. 21.

In Altenberg, Germany, 2010 and 2014 Olympic champion Humphries and her teammate Gibbs recorded the best time in both heats and currently sit 0.21 seconds ahead of junior world champion Kim Kalicki and teammate Kira Lipperheide of Germany.

Overall World Cup holder Stephanie Schneider of Germany, racing with Leonie Fiebig as her brakewoman, is in third overall, 0.54 seconds back.

Olympic and world champion Mariama Jamanka and teammate Annika Drazek of Germany moved from seventh up into fourth during heat two, while European champions Nadezhda Sergeeva and Elena Mamedova of Russia will start the second day of World Championship action in seventh place.

The Chinese duo of Ying Qing and Du Jiani currently sit 10th place after two heats, 1.36 seconds behind, with fellow Chinese pair Huai Mingming and Lu Chunyang ranked 12th.

The final two heats will take place on Feb. 22.
