Gabriel Heinze will leave his post as head coach of Velez Sarsfield after the team's final match of the Argentinian Superliga season on Monday.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid center-back declined to give reasons for the decision, which he announced at a press conference on Friday.
"I always want to fulfil my contractual obligations, but now the league is over," said Heinze, whose contract with Velez was due to expire in June.
Velez are currently third in the 24-team Superliga standings, 10 points behind leaders River Plate. A victory at Union Santa Fe on Monday will guarantee them a place in next year's Copa Libertadores - South America's equivalent of the UEFA Champions League.
"I'm going to do everything possible to win in Santa Fe and leave the club in a good position," Heinze added.
The 41-year-old, who was capped 72 times for Argentina's national team, led Velez to 27 wins, 20 draws and 17 losses following his appointment in December 2017.
