Beijing 2022 releases sustainability plan

On May 14, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), and the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (BOCOG) released the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Sustainability Plan on their official websites.

The plan aims to set a new benchmark for staging events and regional sustainability. It features three key goals: a positive environmental impact, new development for the region and a better life for the people.

Juan Antonio Samaranch, IOC Vice-President and Chair of the Beijing 2022 IOC Coordination Commission, and Andrew Parsons, president of the International Paralympic Committee, both expressed their congratulations on the publication of the plan via a video link.

"Sustainability is high on its agenda for Beijing 2022. It is regarded as an indispensable element of staging a 'green, inclusive, open and clean' games and implementing the reforms introduced in the Olympic Agenda 2020," said Zhang Jiandong, Executive Vice President of Beijing 2022 and Vice Mayor of Beijing Municipality.

"The IOC welcomes the publication of the Beijing 2022 Sustainability Plan as it provides a comprehensive framework for the overall sustainability vision of the Olympic Games Beijing 2022," said Juan Antonio Samaranch, IOC Vice-President and Chair of the Beijing 2022 IOC Coordination Commission.

"I would like to commend Beijing 2022 and its partners for taking the lead on sustainability in order to create a new model for the Olympic and Paralympic Games," said Parsons. "Not only is Beijing 2022 looking to lead the way in making a huge positive difference to society, but it is also making itself accountable by laying out exactly what this plan aims to achieve."
