Xie Libin, assistant coach of Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) side Beijing Ducks, says he is ready for the challenge of leading the team in its upcoming matches despite his lack of coaching experience.

China's basketball league will resume on June 20. With Ducks' head coach Yannis Christopoulos unable to return to Beijing due to current restrictions on international travel, Xie will take charge of the team after the CBA's restart.

Xie, 34, retired in 2016 before becoming assistant coach of Beijing's youth team and the CBA's Beijing Ducks.

"I have to take on the duty [of being head coach] as Christopoulos cannot return. It's possible that I will face many difficulties due to my lack of coaching experience," the Beijing's former scoring guard acknowledged.

"But I hope to make up for that with my best efforts. The team have performed well over the last three months in behind-closed-doors training. Players have shown their self-discipline without our head coach in the team," he added.

The Ducks are scheduled to leave for Qingdao on June 15 to gear up for upcoming CBA matches to be staged there.

Xie said he felt the challenges mainly come from the revised championship-style format and the intense back-to-back schedule.

"We need to keep a good physical condition, and improve our form as quickly as possible. We don't have a young roster, so we will have to keep everyone motivated while we rotate the squad for the back-to-back schedule," he noted.

Xie added that his side should pay more attention to the process than the result.

"It's the first time that we are taking part in this championship format. We need to focus on our own performance, and the result will come naturally."

"I don't set a specific target for myself. I just hope the team can work well in each game. We boast a complete roster, and have a chance of improving our standing," he said.
