China's Luo reaches third round at Snooker World Championship qualifiers

China's Luo Honghao reached the third round at the Snooker World Championship qualifiers with a sensational comeback in Sheffield on Friday.
20-year-old Luo was one frame away from losing the game as he trailed 50-year-old Peter Lines 1-5. But the youngster held his nerve to win the following five frames, setting up a third-round encounter against Stuart Carrington.
Last year, Luo won three qualifying matches to reach the final stages of the World Championship but lost to Shaun Murphy in the first round.
Before Luo's victory, Chinese teenager Fan Zhengyi lost to Dominic Dale 6-4.
19-year-old Fan came from 1-4 down to defeat Wales' Dylan Emery 6-4 in the first round and seemed to repeat the catch-up on Friday as he chased from 1-3 down to 4-3. But Dale got the upper hand in the last three frames, winning the opportunity to face Thai player Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in the third round.
The qualifying event was held behind closed doors on Tuesday at the English Institute of Sport with 128 players battling for 16 spots across four rounds.
On Thursday, 16-year-old Wu Yize from China eased through the second round by beating Robbie Williams 6-4. Meanwhile, Lu Ning, Lyu Haotian and Liang Wenbo will start their qualifying campaigns in the third round.
The World Snooker Championship will be staged at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre from July 31 to August 16. Reduced crowds will be permitted to attend every session, as the tournament is one of the pilot events ahead of the full, socially-distanced return of sporting events in England from October 1.
China's Ding Junhui and Yan Bingtao have already earned their places in the final thanks to their top 16 rankings, along with defending champion Judd Trump, veteran John Higgins and five-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan.
