Former Girona and Sevilla coach Pablo Machin looks set to be named as the new boss of Deportivo Alaves after confirming in a communique that he will not be taking up an offer from Chinese club, Qingdao Huanghai.
Machin, who also had a brief spell with Espanyol this season, had looked to be bound for China, but posted a communique on social media on Thursday afternoon reading: "yesterday I told the club from Qingdao, that I can't travel to China for personal motives and consequently I will not be their coach for this season."
"I thank that club and their fans for the interest they showed in me and I wish them all success. I hope that our paths can cross in the future," explained the coach.
Machin is now the favorite to replace Juan Muniz at Alaves after the Spanish press linked him to the club on Wednesday.
The club from the city in Vitoria in the north of Spain celebrates its centenary in the coming season and are interested in a coach who is known for the good defensive organization of his sides and also for working with young players.
