Benfica have reached a deal to sign Fluminense right-back Gilberto, according to Brazilian media reports.
The 27-year-old will travel to Portugal in the coming days to undergo a medical and sign a long-term contract, the Globo Esporte news portal said late Wednesday.
The transfer is a special request of Benfica manager Jorge Jesus, who rejoined his former club last month after parting ways with Brazilian Serie A champions Flamengo.
Jesus was impressed with Gilberto's performances against Flamengo during the Rio de Janeiro state championship in July, reports said.
Gilberto joined Fluminense in 2018 from Italy's Fiorentina. The defender has also represented Vasco da Gama, Latina, Hellas Verona, Internacional and Botafogo since making his professional debut in 2011.
