Real Madrid confirmed on Tuesday that goalkeeper Alphonse Areola's loan deal has come to an end and he will return to Paris Saint-Germain.
The former Villarreal keeper returns to France after playing 764 minutes of first-team football in nine games last season, with five of his appearances in La Liga, three in the Copa del Rey and one in the Champions League.
The 27-year-old let in nine goals at an average of one goal every 69 minutes, and has not played since conceding four goals as Madrid crashed out of the Copa del Rey following a 4-3 quarterfinal defeat at home to Real Sociedad.
Next season, 21-year-old Ukrainian Andriy Lunin will be understudy to Thibaut Courtois at Madrid after completing a successful loan spell with second division Real Oviedo.
Meanwhile, Spanish sports papers Diario AS and Marca both report that Real Madrid will cut short Martin Odegaard's two-year loan deal with Real Sociedad at the request of coach Zinedine Zidane.
The 21-year-old midfielder was due to spend a second campaign in San Sebastian, but his form last season has led to Zidane requesting his return to form part of Real Madrid's first-team squad.
Odegaard's return may have knock-on effects, with Isco likely to be the player to move on to make space in the squad for the young Norwegian.
