Karsten Warholm set the second-fastest 400m hurdles performance of all time at the Bauhaus Galan Wanda Diamond League meeting in Stockholm on Sunday, as the Norwegian clocked 46.87 seconds to break his own European record, just 0.09 off the world record.

Warholm should have had the chance to break Kevin Young's 46.78 world record which was set at the Barcelona Olympic Games 28 years ago, but the 24-year-old clipped the final barrier.

"I hit that last hurdle because I went really hard for the first nine, and stuff like this happens," said Warholm, who had a 47.10 performance to open his season in Monaco just over one week ago.

"But I think I was rewarded by just going all in at the end and I got a great time. It's a great lesson for me to always run until the finish line," he added.

Frenchman Wilfried Happio ranked second with 49.14, just ahead of compatriot Ludvy Vaillant who clocked 49.18.

94 minutes later, Warholm continued to win the 400m with 45.05, 0.80 ahead of Slovenia's Luka Janezic.

Elsewhere, Armand Duplantis added a centimeter to his 2020 outdoor world lead with a big first-attempt clearance at 6.01m, taking down the 5.95m meeting record set by Rodion Gataullin in 1989, while Laura Muir won the 1500m with 3 minutes and 57.86 seconds.
