Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has been included in the England squad for their forthcoming UEFA Nations League games against Iceland and Denmark, despite a pending assault charge against him.

There had been speculation that the defender may have been left out after he was charged with aggravated assault and attempted bribery of a police officer for an incident on the Greek island of Mykonos last week.

As well as including Maguire, England coach Gareth Southgate has also handed debut call-ups to Manchester City's Phil Foden, 18-year-old Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, and Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Raheem Sterling is also included after testing negative for COVID-19, after the Manchester City forward had attended a party in Jamaica last week with former sprinter Usain Bolt, who was confirmed on Tuesday to have been infected.

Southampton forward Danny Ings also gets his first call up in five years after netting 22 Premier League goals last season.

Meanwhile, Liverpool duo Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell all miss out though injury.

England play away in Iceland on September 5 and in Denmark three days later in their first games since November 2019.

Full squad:

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson, Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Eric Dier, Joe Gomez, Michael Keane, Harry Maguire, Tyrone Mings, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker

Midfielders: Phil Foden, Mason Mount, Kalvin Phillips, Declan Rice, James Ward-Prowse, Harry Winks

Forwards: Tammy Abraham, Mason Greenwood, Danny Ings, Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling.
