Newly promoted La Liga club Elche on Wednesday named Argentina's Jorge Almiron as their new head coach.

Almiron replaces Jose Rojo Martin 'Pacheta', who the club announced would not continue in charge on Tuesday, less than 48 hours after he led Elche back to the top flight after beating Girona in Sunday's second division playoff final.

"The coach will be presented in Elche at the start of next week with his technical staff. We are grateful to Jorge Almiron and his professional team who will accompany him in this new challenge," read a statement on Elche's official website.

Almiron, 49, has coached Argentinian sides Lanus, Independiente, San Lorenzo and Godoy Cruz, as well as Atletico Nacional in Colombia. His last job was in Saudi Arabia with Al Shabab FC, but he has never coached in Europe.
