Jiangsu joined Shanghai in the semifinals of the Chinese men's volleyball league after beating the defending champions 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 28-26) on Thursday.

This year's league sees eight teams divided into two groups to play in a round-robin format, with the top two finishers from each pool moving on to the semifinals.

Defending champions Shanghai had already booked a berth in the last four before Thursday's game, sitting top of Pool E three points ahead of second-placed Jiangsu, while Sichuan and Henan sat third and fourth respectively.

Wing spiker Yu Yuantai claimed a game-high 19 points, while Liu Xiangdong also contributed 13 points for Jiangsu.

The victory sent Jiangsu top of Pool E, with Shanghai slipping to second place.

Jiangsu's victory rendered the tie between Sichuan and Henan meaningless, in which Sichuan came from behind to beat Henan 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-19).

In Pool G's afternoon fixture, Tianjin defeated Liaoning 3-1.
