Veteran striker Jorge Molina has tested positive for COVID-19 just one day after being presented as a new signing by Spanish La Liga outfit Granada, the club confirmed on Thursday.
Molina returned a positive PCR test which he took on Wednesday, the same day he was presented by the club owned by Chinese businessman Jiang Lizhang.
"The striker is asymptomatic, he has been isolated and his condition is being followed by the technical staff and the club's medical services," reads a statement on the Granada website.
38-year-old Molina, who is the oldest active player in La Liga, has agreed a two-year deal with Granada to add experience to a squad that will play in Europe for the first time in its history after finishing seventh in La Liga last season.
In theory, Molina's positive test should not affect the activity of his teammates, as the striker did not train with his new club before discovering his test result.
Molina's is Granada fourth confirmed COVID-19 infection this pre-season, with Darwin Machis, Yan Eteki and Maxime Gonalons previously testing positive, although Gonalons has since recovered and has returned to training under coach Diego Martinez.
