Team Jumbo rider Primoz Roglic clinched the yellow jersey from Britain's Adam Yates after Sunday's 2020 Tour de France stage 9, while Roglic's Slovenian compatriot Pogacar won the stage.

Yates was dropped on the final climb of the 153km from Pau to Laruns, which was the second day that the race took place in the Pyrenees.

Switzerland's debutant Marc Hirschi had a brilliant solo lead for over 80km before being caught 1.5km from the finish, where Pagacar edged fellow Slovenian Roglic to claim the victory,

"Everybody dreams of wearing the yellow jersey one day in his life so first off I'm just happy how things are," Roglic said.

"It's a fight for every second now and lots of things will happen to each of us on the road to Paris."

Defending champion Egan Bernal also arrived with the leading group and was able to improve his overall ranking to second place.

Roglic holds a 21-second lead over Bernal going into Monday's first rest day thanks to the bonus time he collected at the top of the mountain and at the finish line. French rider Guillaume Martin ranks third, 28 seconds behind.
