Former Brazilian national team manager Mano Menezes has been named head coach of Bahia, the Brazilian Serie A club said on Wednesday.

The 58-year-old agreed to a 15-month contract following the sacking of Roger Machado last week.

"We are now starting a new cycle with our feet on the ground and our head toward the stars. Mano Menezes, welcome," Bahia president Guilherme Bellintani said on Twitter.

Menezes, who has been out of work since parting ways with Palmeiras last December, will be tied to the Salvador-based side until December next year.

Bahia are currently 13th in the 20-team Serie A standings with just two wins from seven matches.

Menezes was Brazil's national team boss from July 2010 to November 2012. He has also had spells in charge of Shandong Luneng, Cruzeiro, Corinthians, Flamengo and Gremio, among other clubs, in a coaching career spanning more than two decades.
