More than 300 competitors from 20 provinces and cities took part in a two-day motorboat competition in Tianjin which kicked off on Oct. 17. The event included two series of activities: the Tianhaifeng Model Boat Open and Tianhaifeng Motorboat Race. The activities were held in Tianjin's Dongli Lake area, under the theme of "National Fitness For All."

The winner of the motorboat obstacle course was Zhai Junshuai from Tianjin Tianhaifeng Club, while Xia Yifan from Anhui province won the motorboat speed racing. In the FSR-O relay, teams from Sichuan, Tianjin and Guangdong took home the first, second and third places, respectively; while in the DSR-V relay, Beijing, Sichuan and Tianjin took the top spots.

The "National Fitness" series of competitions are a demonstration series of national fitness events launched by the General Administration of Sport of China. The model boat and motorboat races which concluded last week were organized as part of this series. The Model Boat Open involves a high level of technology, and is a fiercely competitive event. It attracted teams and participants from nearly 20 provinces and cities including Beijing, Hebei, Liaoning, Ningxia, Hunan, Shanghai, Sichuan, Guangdong and Tianjin.

The Tianhaifeng Motorboat Race held at the same time was also very exciting. Athletes from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei all took part, with spectators greatly enjoying the events.

Zhai Qilu, chairman of Tianjin Tianhaifeng Water Sports Club, said that as the organizer of the "National Fitness For All" series of events, the club is committed to promoting and popularizing water sports, especially among young Chinese. It hosts a variety of activities, competitions, summer camps and trips to encourage more young people to take up water sports. So far, many members and enthusiasts have tried their hands at such activities as sailing and waterskiing.

The model boat race held over the weekend also attracted many young people from across the country, some of whom participated in school teams. "Model boats are very suitable for young people. They can learn different things about technology, the ocean and physics," Zhai explained." Plus, they can also enhance their hand-eye coordination. In the future, we plan to hold special training courses to encourage more youngsters to take part."

In addition to the boat races, the Dongli Lake area — as a national fitness center — also attracted many other event attendees. It recently hosted the 10th National Fitness competition for Dongli District, promoting fitness among Tianjin's citizens through extensive activities, and inspiring more people to try sports, train for fitness and live healthier lives. Locals have not only improved their physical fitness, but also gained a sense of accomplishment through participation, demonstrating a healthy Tianjin.
