Not many things surprise Marcus Thuram since he made his way into the German Bundesliga.
After a successful last league season, the French under-19 international has continued his journey to the top scoring his first two goals in the UEFA Champions League in Borussia Moenchengladbach's 2-2 draw against the big favorites Real Madrid.
The biggest surprise, though, came after the Germans' stunning result in their group encounter. The 23-year-old son of French 1998 World Cup winner and 2000 European Champion Lilian Thuram learned he had already outdone his father in terms of Champions League goals.
Even though his career seems to be picking up speed, the youngster is now one goal ahead of his famous dad.
"Until tonight, I didn't know he had scored in the Champions League at all," Marcus Thuram commented in astonishment.
Now his son's agent, Thuram senior scored his only goal when playing for AS Monaco in their 4-1 thrashing of Spartak Moscow in the 1993/1994 season.
It took Thuram junior more than two decades to discover his father's last secrets.
While the Thuram family might soon be talking about the new topic of Champions League goals, the former French international may soon have a lot of work on his plate.
Several top European sides are said to be keeping a close eye on the development of the emerging star. Reports speak of Premier League sides have added the Borussia striker to their "one-to-watch" list.
Thuram junior seems perfect for clubs relying on fast-attacking football due to his enormous speed and physical power.
With 35.6 km/h, the attacker has been measured as the sixth fastest performer in the German national league.
Finishing off incisive vertical passes is one of the qualities of the 1.92-meter-tall forward next to his excellent record in man-on-man situations.
Moenchengladbach managing director Max Eberl is said to be getting ready to face offers despite Thuram's having a contract that runs to 2023.
"That's why we signed him. We were and are convinced he is making his way to the top," Eberl said, adding possible offers will be rejected at least until next year.
In Moenchengladbach, one of football's most promising commodities has won the fans' hearts. The club's supporters voted him last season's MVP following ten goals and eight assists.
After a successful game, he became popular in the team due to his habit to always praising one of his team-mates by waving one of their shirts near the corner flag.
There seems more to come of the forward's celebrations after the group underdog is doing surprisingly well in a group with the favorites Real and Inter.
In their away game in Italy, Moenchengladbach also earned a 1-1 draw.
Thuram called the games important "as we have learned that we can keep up with the big teams and have reached a steady level at the top of the national league."
He promised the good results are not meant to be the end.
