Changchun Yatai, the winner of the 2007 Chinese Super League (CSL), secured its place in the 2021 CSL on Sunday after smashing Chengdu Better City 3-0 in the last round of the Chinese second division (China League).

Tan Long broke the deadlock for Changchun in the second minute through a powerful volley from inside the box, following an assist from Aaron Olanare.

In the 37th minute, Chen Boliang's close range header found the net, helping Yatai double its lead.

Changchun was relegated from the CSL at the end of the 2018 season. The former Chinese football powerhouse almost returned to the top tier of the Chinese football in 2019, but failed in the final round of the season.

"I am very excited, you know, it takes us two years to win the trophy. We should play on a bigger platform than the second-tier league," said Tan.

Zhejiang Energy Greentown finished second after overcoming Taizhou Yuanda 3-1, and will face a playoffs clash with the team who finishes 15th in the CSL.

In the other game played in Chengdu, Kunshan F.C saw off Meizhou Hakka 1-0.

In the Meizhou division, Guizhou Hengfeng defeated Beijing Renhe 3-0, Sichuan Jiuniu was held to a 1-1 draw by Beijing BSU, Liaoning Shenyang Urban drew with Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard 2-2.

In the Changzhou division, Inner Mongolia Zhongyou tied Heilongjiang F.C 1-1, Suzhou Dongwu edged Shaanxi Chang'an Athletic 1-0, and Nantong Zhiyun had a thrilling 3-3 draw with Jiangxi Liansheng.

According to league regulations, the bottom two teams of the Meizhou and Changzhou divisions will take part in a playoffs in an attempt to avoid relegation. Beijing Renhe will fight for a ticket for next season's China League with Jiangxi Liansheng, while Heilongjiang F.C. will face the Xinjiang Tianshan Leopards. The two losing teams of the series will be relegated from the league.
