Franklin's triple-double leads Shanxi past Shanghai

Jamaal Franklin had 44 points, 14 rebounds and 18 assists to help the Shanxi Loongs edge Shanghai Sharks 121-118 in the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Thursday.

Shanxi took the lead in the first quarter with an 11-1 run. Shanghai's forward Ju Mingxin got 12 points from the bench to help the team turn the tables.

On the back of Jimmer Fredette's two three-pointers, Shanghai kept the lead after the third quarter. However, Shanxi narrowed it from eight to three with successive baskets in the paint.

The two teams exchanged leads in the last quarter. Ren Junwei made a three-pointer from the left corner, which helped Shanxi lead by five in the last 35 seconds. Shanghai failed to grasp the last chance to score and lost the match.

Ren had 22 points for Shanxi, and Yuan Shuai added 18 points.

As for Shanghai, Fredette had 27 points and five assists, and Marcus Denmon had a team high 38 points.

"We led in rebounds and assists, and more importantly, our players had a greater desire to win tonight," said Shanxi coach Ding Wei.

"Our team kept fighting in this game but we lost in the last minutes," said Shanghai head coach Neven Spahija.
