Zhejiang smashes Fujian, Xinjiang beats Nanjing

The Zhejiang Golden Bulls saw off the Fujian Sturgeons 143-90, delivering the latter its 11th consecutive loss while title favorites the Xinjiang Flying Tigers won over the Nanjing Monkey Kings 112-108 at the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) 2020-21 season in Zhuji, China, on Saturday.

From a two-point advantage in the first quarter, Zhejiang had an 8-0 point dash to start the second period, dominated the court from the midway of the quarter leading 67-44 at the half break.

In the midway of the third period, Zhejiang added a 10-2 dash and put the game beyond Fujian's reach, making Fujian finish the season's first phase with a 1-11 record in 12 matches.

Seven players of Zhejiang pocketed double-digit points, with Liu Zeyi scoring a game-high 25 points, plus 11 rebounds and four assists. Wu Qian made four points but grabbed 10 rebounds.

When facing Xinjiang, Nanjing had a double-digit advantage in the midway of the first quarter, but surrendered the lead before the second quarter as Xinjiang turned the game around and led 60-52 in the first half.

Both sides kept firing in the second half, which saw Nanjing narrow it to six after Heng Yifeng made his three-pointer before the end of the third quarter.

Entering the final quarter, Nanjing played tough defence to claw back the deficit to one point, but lost Shirelijan Muxtar who was ejected for his sixth foul with 1:28 remaining. Then Xinjiang enlarged the advantage to seven to ensure its second consecutive win.

Zhou Qi made nine points and 17 rebounds for Xinjiang, while Arnett Moultrie scored a game-high 28 points, plus 11 rebounds for Nanjing.

In the other games played on Saturday, the Shandong Heroes edged the Tianjin Pioneers 131-100, and the Jiangsu Dragons lost to the Beijing Royal Fighters 94-76.

The CBA season's first phase came to the end after 12 rounds of games on Saturday.
