Beijing Guoan has one foot in the last-16 of the AFC Champions League after a convincing 3-1 win against a rusty Melbourne Victory side on Tuesday extended its perfect record in Group E to three from three.

Guoan's head coach Bruno Genesio took his men into the game with a 100% record from two games. Meanwhile, the Australian side had won their opener in February, and they lost their second game a week later.

Beijing clearly looked a class above Melbourne which was largely lackluster both in attack and defense. Beijing allowed the Australian side only 40 percent ball possession and creating chances galore for Beijing at the al-Sadd Sports Club.

Renato Augusto scored midway through the first half. Jonathan Viera dribbled through the defense before cutting back to Augusto who made no mistake placing the shot to keeper Matthew Acton's left to put Beijing in front.

Alan Carvalho doubled the score just over 10 minutes later with a magnificently placed header after Augusto whipped in a cross from the left flank from a blistering counter-attack by the Chinese Super League side.

Beijing cemented their dominance when substitute Wang Ziming fired a low shot into the bottom left corner just four minutes after coming onto the pitch, to make the score 3-0 with a little over 15 minutes from time.

Melbourne Victory is now third in the standings and will need a Herculean comeback to qualify for the knockout phase.

Meanwhile, in the group's most recent match, FC Seoul thrashed Chiangrai United 5-0.
