Liaoning edged off Guangdong (25-16, 21-25, 18-25, 25-19, 20-18) in the first round of third stage of the Chinese Women's Volleyball League on Friday.
After a balanced start, Liaoning scored nine straight points to take the first set by 25-16.
Guangdong claimed the second on 25-21 and built up a 13-8 lead with a 5-0 run in the third one before they won it 25-18.
The two teams were tied 2-2 after Liaoning nailed down the fourth set and forced the tiebreaker. Liaoning won the decisive fifth set with seven blocks to pocket the victory.
Six players of Liaoning adding double figures while Li Yao and Kelsey Robinson of Guangdong adding 27 and 24 respectively.
In Friday's other action, Tianjin beat Zhejiang 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 32-30), Sichuan overpowered Hebei 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-13), Yunnan overwhelmed Henan 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-18, Jiangsu swept Shandong 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-16) and Shanghai overcame Beijing 3-1 (25-9, 25-16, 18-25, 25-18).
