Former Brazil and Real Madrid manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo has been admitted to hospital after contracting COVID-19 for a second time, according to widespread media reports on Monday.
The 68-year-old was taken to the Sirio-Libanes hospital in Sao Paulo after showing symptoms during a trip with his family to Rio de Janeiro, the Globo news outlet said.
The hospital did not immediately provide details of his condition but the Estado de S.Paulo newspaper reported that Luxemburgo was suffering from strong head and body aches.
The veteran coach was asymptomatic during his first bout of the virus in July and was able to recover while in self isolation at his home.
Luxemburgo is the most successful manager in the history of Brazil's top flight with five Serie A titles, including back-to-back triumphs with Palmeiras in 1993 and 1994.
He was Brazil's national team boss from 1998 to 2000 and had an 11-month spell in charge of Real Madrid in 2005.
His most recent head coaching role was with Palmeiras, whom he left in October.
