The medical center for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games in the Yanqing competition zone has been put into operation, aiming to provide high-quality medical services for athletes, coaches and other staff, the local government said on Friday.

Located within the Peking University Third Hospital Yanqing Branch, the center has a total of seven floors, with an emergency department, Winter Olympic ward, operating room, and a number of outpatient departments and specialized wards.

At the southwest of the center, a 210-square-meter heliport will be used for emergency evacuation of injured athletes during the Games. "It takes less than 20 minutes by helicopter from the core competition area to the heliport," said Wang Wei, liaison officer of Yanqing Hospital Winter Olympic Office.

Telemedicine services will also be provided thanks to technology like 5G and the center will be equipped with a remote platform to transmit the condition of critically ill patients to specialized hospitals.

At present, the center has set up a medical team composed of 58 professional experts selected by Yanqing Hospital and 43 experts selected by Peking University Third Hospital. There will be training and drills for these medical staff to improve their service and support abilities.
