Inner Mongolia sweeps Xinjiang to win WCBA title

Title favorite Inner Mongolia defeated Xinjiang 93-82 in Game 2 to win the best-of-three finals of the 2020-21 Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) in Bengbu, east China's Anhui province on Sunday.

Huang Sijing was named MVP as she collected 23 points and seven rebounds for Inner Mongolia.

Inner Mongolia took the lead as Huang hit a 3-pointer. Xinjiang attempted to overturn the score several times but could not get within three points. Li Shanshan was the big contributor for Inner Mongolia in the first quarter, bagging 10 points.

Four minutes into the second quarter, Xinjiang outscored Inner Mongolia 33-27 after Wu Di nailed two 3-pointers in a row, leading Xinjiang with an 11-0 scoring run. Inner Mongolia came back with a 10-0 spurt after a timeout. With Yang Liwei hitting a step-back 3-pointer at the buzzer, Inner Mongolia regained the lead 44-39 at halftime.

With an improved shooting percentage after halftime interval, Xinjiang built a one-point advantage 63-62 as the third quarter ended.

Inner Mongolia launched an 8-0 spurt after the score was tied at 75. Xinjiang had to implement the foul strategy with limited time left but still could not reverse the score.

Yang bagged a game-high 27 points, leading three players scoring over 20 points for Inner Mongolia. Center Li Yueru had a double-double of 23 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Wu scored a team-high 20 points for Xinjiang, while Han Xu played 40 minutes but made four out of 10 from the field for nine points.
