O.J. Mayo shot 10 of 17, scoring a game-high 28 points, and grabbed eight rebounds to help Liaoning Flying Leopards defeat Beijing Ducks 104-96 in the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) Monday evening.

The Liaoning side filmed a video for Mayo's mother, who suffered from COVID-19 before the game, which may have inspired Mayo to find his form. Mayo showed his strong jump shots and good skills in the paint, while his teammate Guo Ailun added 24 points plus nine assists.

Beijing finished with five players scoring in double figures, but the lack of star power forced them to swallow a second loss to big rivals Liaoning.

"It is a tough game. We played in our own way and grabbed the opportunity to win the game," Mayo said.

Beijing started the game with 18-8 before Liaoning had an 8-0 run ending the first quarter at 23-22. Mayo was also unstoppable in the second quarter, as he made 15 points in the first half to help his team 51-40 after two quarters.

Beijing found their offensive rhythm in the second half and narrowed the gap to only five points with four minutes remaining. Then Han Dejun came onto the court for Liaoning and made it safe for the team en route to the victory.
