Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo has returned to Chinese Super League's Shanghai Greenland Shenhua after his loan to Manchester United ended, confirmed the English Premier League side on Wednesday.

Odion, 31, joined the Reds Devils on loan in January 2020. The deal initially ended at the end of last May but then was extended to this month. He scored five goals for the team in a total of 23 appearances.

"It's so hard to see this dream come to an end," Odion wrote on social media. "To the manager I say thank you for trusting and believing in me when many did not. To my amazing team-mates I will miss you guys, it was always fun and a time I look forward to training and spending time with all of you. And I pray we win the league and FA Cup this year."

Manchester United is second in the Premier League table, one point behind Manchester City after 19 games.
