Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen played out a goalless stalemate to conclude the 28th round in Bundesliga on Monday.

Both sides started cautiously into the clash and looked to counterattack opportunities in the opening stages.

As the match progressed, Leverkusen tried to take over but although the "Werkself" controlled possession, they failed to create clear-cut chances on target.

The visitors had to wait until the 25th minute before Charles Aranguiz forced Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann from a tight angle into action.

Leverkusen custodian Lukas Hradecky had nothing to do in the first 45 minutes as the visitor's well-positioned defense neutralized all Hoffenheim attempts.

After the restart, both teams picked up where they left off. Hoffenheim wasn't able to pose any kind of threat whereas Leverkusen tried hard but lacked accuracy in front of the goal.

Leverkusen pushed forward but neither Moussa Diaby nor Nadiem Amiri was able to beat Baumann from a promising position at the hour mark.

In the closing stages, Leverkusen increased the risk and pressure but for all that, Hoffenheim's defense stood firm and secured a goalless draw on home soil.

With the stalemate, Bayer Leverkusen is ranked sixth of the Bundesliga standings, whereas Hoffenheim remains 12th.

"We reaped one point on the road. We defended well and neutralized Hoffenheim, but we lacked to turn our few chances into goals," said Bayer Leverkusen caretaker Hannes Wolf.
