Real Madrid confirmed on Wednesday that central defender and club captain, Sergio Ramos will leave the club at the end of the month.

The club published a brief communique on their official website saying "Real Madrid communicate that tomorrow, Thursday June 17th at 12:30 hours, there will be an institutional action to homage and say goodbye to our captain, Sergio Ramos, in the presence of our president, Florentino Perez."

"Afterwards, Sergio Ramos will speak to the media in an online press conference," reads the communique, which brings and end to Ramos' 16 years as a Real Madrid player in which he made 671 appearances for the club, scoring 101 goals in all competitions.

The news also ends months of speculation over Ramos' future as negotiations between the 35-year-old and Real Madrid over a possible new contract dragged on for months, with the player's position weakened last season due to a series of injuries which limited him to just 15 league appearances, of which just three have been in 2021.
