Uncapped center-back Leo Ortiz has been drafted into Brazil's Copa America squad to replace the injured Felipe Monteiro, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said on Saturday.
Ortiz has impressed Selecao boss Tite with his recent performances for current Brazilian Serie A leaders Bragantino and will train for the first time with his new teammates on Tuesday.
"Leo has been called up for his technical ability, his exemplary background and the fact that he is with a team that is leading the national league," Tite told a virtual news conference.
A delighted Ortiz said he is ready to help the Copa America hosts defend the title they won in 2019, when the tournament was also played in Brazil.
"It's difficult to even find words to describe the happiness I'm feeling right now," the 25-year-old said. "Ever since I was a child I've dreamt of wearing the Brazil shirt. Now I have this opportunity in an important competition. It makes me very proud."
Atletico Madrid's Felipe was cut from the squad earlier on Saturday because of ligament damage to his right knee.
Brazil, who have already qualified for the the quarterfinals, will meet Ecuador in their final group match in Goiania on Sunday.
