Veteran center-back Giorgio Chiellini has signed a two-year contract extension with Juventus, the Italian Serie A side has announced.

Having joined Juve from Fiorentina in 2005, Chiellini has scored 36 goals in 535 outings for the Bianconeri, and had been expected to leave the club this summer when his original contract expired on June 30.

But the return of former head coach Massimiliano Allegri, coupled with Chiellini's outstanding performance at Euro 2020 and his ambitions to compete in the 2022 FIFA World Cup persuaded both club and player to agree to a new contract.

It is reported that Chiellini's wages will be cut to 2.5 million euros per season.
