Premier League title holders Manchester City have signed England midfielder Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a British record of 100 million pounds (about 139.3 million U.S. dollars).
City announced on Thursday that they have signed a six-year deal with the former Aston Villa captain. The 25-year-old will wear the number 10 shirt which was previously occupied by Argentine strike Sergio Aguero.
"It's a dream come true to be part of this club," said Grealish who believed that to play for City manager Pep Guardiola and learn from him is going to be special and "it's something any top footballer would want".
The previous transfer fee record in British football history was around 90 million pounds as Manchester United paid the figure to re-sign French midfielder Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016.
City director of football Txiki Begiristain said that Guardiola loves the way Grealish plays. "We all feel he is an ideal fit for Manchester City. Our style and his style are a perfect match. I'm excited to watch him over the coming years."
Grealish joined Villa's academy when he was six years old and made 213 appearances for the club with 32 goals.
City will start their defending journey in the Premier League with a visit to Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday.
