Dutch national team grabbed first place in the 2022 World Cup qualification Group G after an impressive 6-1 win over Turkey in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

Louis van Gaal, who started his third term as head coach of the Netherlands last week, led the 'Oranje' to dominate the Turkey match from the start in the Johan Cruijff Arena, following a 1-1 draw with Norway and a 4-0 win over Montenegro.

After a combination with Memphis Depay, Davy Klaassen opened the scoring within the first minute. Depay added the second after an assist by Klaassen and FC Barcelona striker Depay made it 3-0 from the penalty spot.

The mission for the visitors became even more difficult after Caglar Soyuncu received his second yellow card for a foul on Depay on the stroke of half-time.

In the second half, Depay headed in the fourth goal, his 33rd for the Netherlands, equaling Dutch legend Johan Cruijff. Substitutes Guus Til and Donyell Malen added more Dutch goals and Cengiz Under scored the Turkish consolation goal in injury-time.

Also in Group G, Norway beat Gibraltar 5-1 and Montenegro drew 0-0 with Latvia.

The Netherlands now lead the table with 13 points from 6 matches, ahead of Norway, also on 13, Turkey (11) and Montenegro (8).
