Jacob Laursen's late equalizer secured Arminia Bielefeld a 1-1 away draw at Augsburg to conclude the eighth round of Bundesliga matches on Sunday.

Augsburg started brightly as Daniel Caligiuri's deflected shot rattled the woodwork with just nine minutes played.

Caligiuri remained in the thick of things and forced Bielefeld goalkeeper Stefan Ortega into action again with a dangerous shot in the 18th minute.

The hosts' efforts paid off as they broke the deadlock moments later when Caligiuri curled a corner into the box, where the unmarked Reece Oxford nodded home from close range.

Bielefeld couldn't pose any threat in the first 45 minutes while Augsburg seemed content with its narrow advantage.

Half-time disrupted the flow of the game as neither Augsburg nor Bielefeld were able to gain momentum, and goalscoring opportunities were at premium.

The spectators had to wait until the 68th minute before the next chance, as Caligiuri had time and space to set up for Arne Meier, who couldn't beat Ortega from a promising position.

Although Augsburg was the more active and dangerous team, it was Bielefeld who restored parity out of the blue in the 77th minute, after Laursen unleashed a volley to stun goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz.

Augsburg responded with frenetic attacks but goals from Jan Moravek and Noah Sarenren Bazee were ruled offside in the closing stages.

"We secured one point on home soil. We didn't gain a foothold in the first half but after some adjustments in the second half we were able to clinch a draw," said Arminia Bielefeld captain Manuel Prietl.

Said Augsburg's Caligiuri, "We definitely wanted the win today. We played offensively minded from kick off and played very well in the first half. We scored a deserved opener and took the advantage into the break. After the break we played too passively and let Bielefeld come back."

With the draw, Augsburg slip to the relegation play-off spot in 16th, while Bielefeld slump to 17th place.
