1. Olympic Flame for Beijing 2022 lit in Ancient Olympia
The Olympic Flame for the Beijing 2022 Winter Games started its journey after being ignited at the birthplace of the Games in Ancient Olympia, Greece on Monday.
Actress Xanthi Georgiou, in the role of an ancient Greek High Priestess, used a concave mirror to focus the sun's rays and light the torch. The ceremony took place at the 2,500-year-old Temple of Hera, a goddess in ancient Greek mythology.
Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach and Vice-President of Beijing 2022 Yu Zaiqing were among the dignitaries at the ceremony. Public spectators were not permitted due to strict COVID-19 countermeasures.
2. Beijing welcomes Olympic flame
The Olympic flame, ignited for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Ancient Olympia in western Greece, arrived in Beijing on Wednesday morning.
A welcoming ceremony was held at the Olympic Tower, an iconic landmark from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The ignition and handover process of the Olympic flame in Greece was reviewed at the ceremony before Cai Qi, secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and president of the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee (BOCOG), took the flame and lit the cauldron.
3. Beijing 2022 announces itinerary of torch relay
On Wednesday, Beijing 2022 organizers announced the itinerary for the Olympic Winter Games' torch relay.
From February 2 to 4, the torch relay will be held in the three competition zones of Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou, featuring the participation of 1,200 torchbearers.
