1. China secures maximum quota for all events
China has secured its maximum quota in short-track speed skating for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics following the 2021-22 season ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating series in Dordrecht, the Netherlands.
Based on results across the four World Cup races, countries can send up to three skaters per individual event and one team per relay to the Beijing Winter Olympics, which will kick off next February.
As the host country of the 2022 Winter Olympics, China has safely booked all spots in every event.
2. Beijing to open non-accredited media center
Journalists without official Olympic accreditation will have space to cover the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
Apart from the Main Press Center, which is earmarked for accredited media outlets, another media center will open in Beijing during the 2022 Games, aimed at assisting non-accredited journalists to broadcast and write about the events.
The media center will be capable of hosting up to 2,000 journalists. However, due to COVID-19 concerns, it will mainly accommodate resident journalists from the Beijing offices of overseas media outlets, instead of those who come to Beijing shortly before the Games unless necessary.
3. Anti-COVID measures adjusted for Paralympic athletes
COVID-19 pandemic control measures for the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games have been adjusted to the specific needs of individual athletes, such as allowing people to temporarily remove their masks in venues when communicating with hearing-impaired athletes, enabling them to read lips while keeping a safe distance, a public health official with the organizing committee said.
