Real Madrid are holding their breath over the fitness of striker Karim Benzema, after the striker was substituted during their 2-2 draw at home to Elche on Sunday.

The striker, who has 24 goals and six assists in all competitions, was forced out of the game after an hour with an apparent problem in his hamstring.

The club will wait until Tuesday before carrying out tests to determine the extent of his injury. If the striker has torn his hamstring, he will miss his side's two most important matches of the season to date.

Real Madrid travel to play Athletic Bilbao in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey on February 3, and on February 15, they have the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie away to Paris Saint-Germain.

Along with Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr., Benzema has been vital to Real Madrid's season to date and his loss would be a significant blow to their chances of progressing in both competitions.

There is better news for Real Madrid regarding Vinicius, Eder Militao, Rodrygo and Casemiro. The Brazilian quartet were in danger of missing the trip to Bilbao due to their involvement in FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, but the club has reached an agreement with the Brazilian Football Federation to fly them back to Spain on a charter fight after Brazil's match against Paraguay on February 2.

That means they should be able to take part in the vital Copa del Rey match, for which Marcelo is suspended after being sent off in the last round.
