Olivier Giroud proved his value again as his goal helped AC Milan beat Napoli 1-0 away in a Serie A showdown on Sunday.
The two sides leveled on points in second place before Sunday's game and only separated by goal difference.
Giroud's brace had helped the Rossoneri win in the Milan derby a few weeks ago, and he decided this game directly after the break when he opportunistically turned in David Calabria's wayward attempt.
With the win, AC Milan retook the lead in the Serie A table with 60 points, two points ahead of Inter Milan who has played a game fewer.
Elsewhere, Juventus continued its unbeaten run after a 1-0 home victory over Spezia.
Spezia goalkeeper Ivan Provedel's howler sparked a counter-attack, and Manuel Locatelli set up for Alvaro Morata to drill home.
Also on Sunday, Domenico Berardi's double powered Sassuolo to a 4-1 victory at Venezia, Genoa earned its 15th draw this season after a 0-0 stalemate against Empoli, Bologna also played out a goalless draw with Torino, and Fiorentina shared the spoils with Hellas Verona, 1-1.
