The National Aquatics Center, the venue for curling competitions of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, will open to the public in April.
At the center, also known as the "Ice Cube," visitors can experience the Winter Olympics by playing curling, getting on the podiums, and shopping for Olympic pins.
According to Yang Qiyong, general manager of the National Aquatics Center, the competition venue covering an area of nearly 1,100 square meters will be transformed into an ice sports venue each year from November to March the near year. It will be used for water sports in the remaining months of the year.
Additionally, the newly added Ice Sports Center in the south square of the National Aquatics Center will be put into operation in May, so as to promote ice sports among youths and provide convenience for persons with disabilities to participate in wheelchair curling activities, Yang said.
The water sports field with a 10,000-square-meter water park and a 1,250-square-meter warm-up pool will open to the public in June, Yang added.
