The Chinese Women's Super League, the top women's football league in the country, kicked off in Hainan province on Thursday.

In the opener, Wuhan Jianghan Jianghan University defeated Shaanxi Chang'an Athletic FC 3-0.

Gu Yasha gave Wuhan a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute as she received a pass from Lou Jiahui and headed the ball into the net. Dai Chenying's goal in the 57th minute expanded Wuhan's lead to 2-0. Temwa Chawinga scored 19 minutes later with an assist from Tabitha Chawinga to help Wuhan seal the victory.

Chang Weiwei, head coach of Wuhan Jianghan, said playmaker Wang Shuang is still recovering in Wuhan due to an ankle injury.

Ten teams are competing in the league, which is phased into four rounds and runs until October 31.
