The Chinese Football Association (CFA) confirmed on Monday that all 18 Chinese Super League (CSL) clubs have been given the green light for playing during the new season, whose schedule is undecided yet due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a large number of football clubs facing serious financial crises, the CFA relaxed its pre-season admission audit earlier this month to extend the deadline for solving wage arrears issues, which allowed the current 18 CSL clubs to remain in the top flight.

But Qingdao FC and Guizhou FC have withdrawn from the second-tier China League One. The Beijing Institute of Technology team and Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard team will fill in the vacancies left in the second division. In addition, China men's U-19 national team will join another 19 teams to participate in the third-tier China League Two.

According to the CFA regulation for the new season, the bottom three teams in the CSL table will be relegated while the top three teams in League One earn promotion.

Each CSL club is allowed to field in a maximum of four overseas players simultaneously and at least one U-23 player must be on the pitch throughout a match. Clubs which have players called up by the U-23 national team for the Hangzhou Asian Games will be exempted from the U-23 policy.

As the number of free agent players increased, the CFA has canceled the limit for each club's transfer of domestic players. The first transfer window started from March 15 and will close on April 29.
