FC Barcelona will temporarily bid goodbye to their Camp Nou Stadium for the 2023/24 football season after the club was granted a license for remodeling their famous ground.
Barcelona will abandon the Camp Nou to play in the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, the venue for the 1992 Olympic Games and curiously where their local rivals Espanyol played their matches between 1997 and 2009, after abandoning their former Sarria Stadium and before moving to their current RCDE Stadium.
Barcelona President, Joan Laporta commented on Thursday that there is a chance Barcelona could also have to kick off the 2024/25 season in the Lluis Companys Stadium, depending on how long the construction lasts.
One obvious problem for Barcelona is that the city center ground has a capacity of 60,713 fans, which is well below the current capacity of just over 99,000, meaning the club needs to satisfy club members and season ticket holders.
