Borussia Dortmund completed the transfer of striker Karim Adeyemi from Austrian champions RB Salzburg, the Bundesliga outfit confirmed in a statement via the club's official homepage on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old has penned a five-year contract and will stay with Dortmund until June 2027.

"After the transfers of Niklas Sule and Nico Schlotterbeck, we have with Karim Adeyemi another very exciting player in our ranks for the next season. His speed and goalscoring skills are impressive and although Karim is only 20 years old, we see enormous potential in him," said designated Dortmund's sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Dortmund's new arrival currently leads the top scorer standings with 19 goals in 27 competitive matches in Austria's Bundesliga. During his four-year spell with Salzburg, he lifted both the Austrian championship and the domestic Austrian Cup three times.

His performances earned him a national team call-up for Germany's senior squad where he scored in his debut match against Armenia in September 2021. He made overall three appearances with the national team ever since.

"As a little boy, I was fascinated by the offensively-minded black-and-yellow football. That is why it quickly became clear to me that I would like to join the BVB when I found out about Dortmund's interest. I also deliberately signed a long-term deal because I'm convinced that we will be an exciting team. With the support of the fantastic Dortmund fans, we will be able to win titles in the medium term," said Adeyemi.

With one round to spare in Germany's top flight, runner-up Dortmund will meet relegation-threatened Hertha Berlin to conclude the Bundesliga season 2021/2022 on Saturday.
